Butler previously served as director of equity and inclusion for Toole Design, where she worked to integrate equity into all projects, work and internal efforts. She also served as executive director of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust, a nonprofit organization that addresses social and racial equity by building parks in park-poor communities across Greater Los Angeles. Butler also served as executive director of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and led social change strategies at Liberty Hill Foundation.

President and CEO of Newark Symphony Hall

Laird is the president and CEO of Newark Symphony Hall, a historic performing arts center in Newark, New Jersey. Previously, she served as executive director of the Arts Council of Princeton. Laird also served as director of economic development and acting director of housing production for the city of Trenton. She was regional director of the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce and the executive director of the Trenton Downtown Association.
