Hellyer was appointed chancellor of San Jacinto College in 2009. Since joining the college in 1996, she has served in a number of executive positions including director of the San Jacinto College Foundation, executive vice president for resource development and vice chancellor for fiscal affairs. Previously, Hellyer worked as an accountant in the private and public arenas.
Burnette has led Huston-Tillotson, a historically Black college in Austin, since 2015. She serves as co-chair of the Mayor of Austin’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequities, board chair of Leadership Austin and treasurer of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas. Previously, Burnette worked at The Washington Post, Proctor and Gamble and ran her own computer consulting firm.
Flores has served as chancellor of Alamo Colleges District since 2018, where he led the district to be awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest honor for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive. Previously, he served as president of Palo Alto College. Flores also serves as a board member for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the World Affairs Council.
Sorrell has served as the president of Paul Quinn College since 2007. He has been named Higher Education’s President of the Year by Education Dive and one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune Magazine, and he is the only three-time recipient of the HBCU Male President of the Year Award. Sorrel is also the recipient of the Dallas Bar Association’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award.
