Garza is a University of Texas at Austin student and the star of the political coming-of-age story “Boys State,” which won the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S Documentary Competition at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
Boys State is a political coming-of-age story that examines the health of American democracy through an unusual experiment: A thousand 17-year-old boys from across Texas gather together to build a representative government from the ground up. This film is directed by Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss.

Moss is a documentary filmmaker and cinematographer. He is the co-director of the political coming of age story “Boys State,” which won the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S Documentary Competition at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Moss also wrote, directed and produced “The Overnighters,” a 2014 documentary film short listed for best documentary feature at the Oscars. He teaches filmmaking at San Francisco State University.
McBaine is the co-director and producer of the political coming of age story “Boys State,” which won the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S Documentary Competition at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. She also produced “The Overnighters,” a 2014 documentary film short listed for best documentary feature at the Oscars.
