Duncan served as U.S. secretary of education from 2009 to 2015 under former President Barack Obama. Previously, he served as CEO of Chicago public schools and ran the Ariel Education Initiative, a nonprofit that works to create educational opportunities in economically disadvantaged areas. Duncan currently serves as managing director at Chicago CRED, a nonprofit dedicated to stopping gun violence in Chicago.
Spellings is the president and CEO of Texas 2036, a public policy nonprofit that conducts research for policymakers to make informed decisions about the state’s future. Previously, she served as U.S. secretary of education under former President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009, and most recently she served as president of the University of North Carolina System.
