Robert Gates

Gates served as secretary of defense under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He is the author of “Exercise of Power: American Failures, Successes, and a New Path Forward in the Post-Cold War World,” published in June. Previously, he served as president of Texas A&M University, director of the Central Intelligence Agency and as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
